Goals for 2010 - Starting with myself

While I personally have so many things that I want to do this year it has resulted in somewhat of a confusion in my mind as to how I am going to be able to do everything and when I am going to get everything done. Also in true me style the year has scarcely begun and I have been stressing about what my next move is, where do i go from here, what am I going to do when I graduate at the end of the year? What am I going to do my masters in? Am I going to be going overseas? Can I get a bursary? Should I wait and go overseas next year? These thoughts are all whizzing through my head at 100 miles an hour. <br /><br /><div style="text-align: left;">So, I thought I would start small. With myself and leave the rest of it for another day. <br /></div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">This year I want to start taking care of myself. I want to make sure that I face each day looking and feeling the very best that I can whether I am going out, at work or in doors for the day studying. <br /></div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">So I want to:<br /></div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">1.) Get up each week day at 7:30<br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">2.) Eat breakfast everyday<br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">3.) Get dressed and look presentable everyday no matter what I have planned<br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">4.) Take my vitamins everyday<br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">5.) Watch the news every morning so I am on top of world events<br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">6.) Say my affirmations daily while I get ready<br /></div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">*******************************************************<br /><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">7.) Work on defining my style with pupose and designing a closet around that<br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">8.) Buying fewer pieces and saving up money to shop instead of buying frivolous items on a whim<br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">9.) I want to have fun with my hair and try a few new styles<br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">10.) I want to start painting my nails and giving myself weekly mani's and pedi's<br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">11.) I want to get my eyebrows professionally shaped<br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">12.) I want to learn how to do my make up professionally <br /></div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">These are the thingst to treat myself to, to start the year. The rest of my worries and anxieties can take a backseat for now.<br /></div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;"><em>What are some ways or things that you want to treat yourself to or accomplish this year? The theme, Best of the Blogisphere, means that the article are going to be the favourite and most populr articles from your blog that readers go back and read over and over or are the type of post people print out and use as a resource. New, never been posted before articles are most welcome. I'm looking for a mix of fun and frivolous, informational and even a little serious. Any format is accepted, lists, point form, poems, quotes, pictures, long article, short articles. Since I'm a little late to the game and my 24th birthday is now 8 months away and not 12, I have decided to make a list of 16 things (2/3 of 24) as opposed to 24. And here they are:<br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><ol><li>Go on a wine tasting tour</li><li>Go to a cheese tasting</li><li>Visit the chocolate factory in Frachoek :)</li><li>Read a classic novel like Emma or Jane Eyre</li><li>Do a capsule wardrobe project for a month</li><li>Shop at a vintage/second hand store and buy something <br /></li><li>Go a month without spending on anything but food and essential living expenses</li><li>Go up Table Mountain</li><li>Go on a bus tour of the city</li><li>Visit the penguins at Boulders Beach</li><li>Complete 6 months worth of Project 365 (I have unfortunately fallen horribly behind, oooops)</li><li>Find and apply for a minimum of 5 bursaries for overseas study</li><li>Start training to complete in Intervarsity (inter-university dance competition)</li><li>Learn how to start a fire (for braai purposes aka a barbeque)</li><li>Learn how to sew with a sewing machine</li><li>Open an Etsy store</li></ol>So, there they are. I am definitely motivated to complete my list along with all the other goals I have set for myself for the coming year. PROJECT INDEPENDENCE

This same feeling I feel is what is holding me back from turning what I had left of the year into a success and what is standing in the way of making me feel like I can make next year a success. I am one of those people who has never really failed at things that I have attempted. I've always completed the tasks put before me so when I made plans to go overseas for a year I just assumed that I would be able to do.<br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Unfortunately, I failed miserably and did not complete my mission. I took a huge risk and in this instance it did not pay off. I was devastated. I tried again and got an amazing job and was all set to leave again and embark on an amazing adventure, however, this time it was logistical problems that kept me from my goal as the particular visa I had was not adjustable.<br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I can't say that this year has been a complete waste as I have achieved some amazing things:<br /></div><ul><li>one year anniversary with my boyfriend, we may not have stayed together had I been overseas</li><li>worked hard and earned a nice sum of money that I have invested and has allowed me to be financially independant</li><li>enrolled in the most amazing dance school and expanded my dancing repertoire. I live and breath dance.</li><li>met some really amazing people.</li><li>and of course starting this blog <br /></li></ul>And so, the next chapter of my life is almost on me and I have decided to work hard to achieve the most important goal that I will ever have in my opinion, becoming completely and totally independent from my parents. For this particular goal I will be giving myself one year.<br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;">DECEMBER 2009 - NOVEMBER 2010<br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">In this year I will do the following:<br /></div><ol><li>Get a job that will support me completely with the aim of paying my rent 6 months into the year</li><li>Complete my honours degree in psychology and pass with 80%</li><li>Change peoples lives with my community and volunteer work</li><li>Get a paid internship for after graduation</li><li>Apply for and get into my Masters in either America or London</li><li>Apply for and qualify for a full bursary for my Masters</li><li>Save up enough money for a two month backpacking trip through Europe in 2011</li></ol>In preparation for this over the next two months i will be:<br /><ol><li>finding an apartment that comes in under my budget</li><li>sending out my resume and applying for jobs</li><li>cleaning out my room and throwing away so that I can move everything </li><li>working to earn as much as I can so that I can support myself</li><li>doing research on different schools and bursaries that I can apply for</li></ol>Posting all of this here is an extra motivation for me to achieve my goals as I know that all of you will be reading this. I am also going to be posting progress reports every few months to keep myself motivated and on track. I really feel that I need to achieve these goals to prove to myself and my parents that I am a success and not a failure.<br /><br /><i>I apologize that this is a little bit of an intense post and not along the lines of my usual articles but I feel it is important to myself that I share my story with you. Hopefully I will inspire you and together with the help each other achieve all our goals.</i><br /><br /><i>If you have any big goals or life changing decisions that you would like to achieve start your own PROJECT - name it what ever you would like, even the same as mine and leave the link in the comments section or email me so that I can support you in PROJECT. </i>

I love having photo's to show for all the fun times. I have recently however stopped taking photo's as much which is not a good thing. But then today I discovered <a href="http://365project.org/">PROJECT 365</a> - basically what it is, is a type of social networking site but instead of updating your status you upload one photo for everyday of the year and at the end you have a year in your life in photo's :)<br /><br />I personally think its a fab idea and can't wait to get started. Its really going to push me to start taking photo's again and what an awesome keepsake to have, your year photo by photo so you don't forget a day.<br /><br /><i>I have 10 invites to give away to the first 10 readers who post a comment here asking to be invited. Polyvore Personal Style Challenge - The Little Black Dress Edition

Hey guys,<br /><br />So following on from my participation in the Polyvore Personal Style Challenge I set myself a little challenge of my own using a LBD. On recommendation from<span style="text-decoration: underline;"> <a href="http://missladyfinger.blogspot.com/">MLF</a></span>, whose post on <a href="http://missladyfinger.blogspot.com/2009/06/personal-style.html">personal style</a>, was the catalyst behind the <a href="http://missladyfinger.blogspot.com/2009/06/polyvore-social-experiment.html">Polyvore Social Experiment </a>I will be starting a similar group on Polyvore.
